Free education for 2 year olds

Some families in Medway can receive free early education for their two-year-old. This can be a place in a pre-school, nursery or with a childminder for up to 15 hours per week.

Who can apply

You'll need to be in receipt of certain benefits or your child will need to meet the criteria to be eligible.

How do I apply

Medway Council will write to all eligible families towards the end of the term before your child can claim their free early education. Alternatively, check if you’re eligible by applying here, or, if you need help completing the form, call or visit your local Children's Centre, where staff will be able to help.

If you are eligible you must print off the page which will have a reference number on it, and take it to your chosen childcare provider.

Why should I apply

When your child attends a pre-school they will play with other children, and be helped by qualified staff to learn and develop well. They will explore and experiment, and learn to share and socialise – all of which will help them to be ready to start school when they are older.
